John Edward Parry Sr. (aka Ed) passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, at the age of 88. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Mink Parry and Herbert Burd Parry, as well as his siblings Lois Hess, Herbert Parry, Nanabelle Shilts, and Frederick Parry. He is survived by his devoted sister, Suzann Sawyer; his loving wife, Peggy Parry; his two cherished children, John Edward Parry Jr. and HM McKinsey, along with their families; as well as Peggy’s children, Tammy Moreno and Jason Kendrick, and their children.

Born in Washington, PA, Ed grew up in Pittsburgh’s South Hill neighborhood. He attended Overbrook Elementary School and graduated from Carrick High School. His sense of duty and following his brother led him to serve in the Marine Corps for three years, after which he married his first wife, Hetta Mae, in Hawaii, where they welcomed their two children.

Following his military service, Ed relocated to California, joining some of his siblings and his mother. His career began with the Teamsters, driving a bread truck for Puritan Bakery, where he laid the foundation for a life dedicated to providing for his family in the San Fernando Valley. Due to a series of unfortunate incidents-his own words-he transitioned into co-owning Western Roofing with his brother Herb, finding stability and success.

One of the pivotal moments in Ed’s life came on February 20, 1984, a day he would proudly call the best of his life when he was “struck” sober. This transformation led him to the serene community of Ojai, California, where he met his beloved wife, Peggy. They later settled in Moccasin, Arizona, where John enjoyed a fulfilling life within a supportive AA community, cherishing the time spent with his sister.

Ed’s passion for Alcoholics Anonymous became a significant part of his life, as he dedicated himself to helping others find their path to recovery. He embraced every moment, sharing his journey and supporting those in need.

Ed’s will be remembered not only for his resilience and determination but also for his unwavering love for family and community. His legacy will continue through the lives he touched and the memories he created.

A celebration of his life will be held Saturday September 5, 2026 at 1pm (Utah time) at:
