Frederick Robert Chappell
May 28, 1941 – July 28, 2025

Frederick Robert Chappell passed away peacefully on July 28, 2025, at 84 years of age. Born on May 28, 1941, Fred joined the Navy at 17 and proudly wore his Retired Navy hat for the rest of his life.
Fred was preceded in rest by his wife of 51 years, Joan Chappell. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Debbie Carol Culley and Gary Sherman Curtis; his six grandchildren, Leanne, Aaron, Garrett, Darby, Claire and Joelle, and his two great grandchildren, Graham and Walter.
With a large network of family and friends, Fred was generous with both his time and skill. From teaching woodworking at Fredonia High School, helping to hang Quilts for the Kanab Quilt Club events, volunteering his time and fund raising with the Elks bowling league, driving the Kanab school bus, laying sod, and welcoming neighborhood cats, Fred’s reach was as far as it was wide, and he will be fondly remembered by many.
“Grandpa” was treasured by his grandkids for teaching them to drive and bowl, telling dad jokes, and for making personalized fishing rods and pens out of anything from hair, to poison ivy and bowling balls. His crispy dogs and ricecream were legendary.
In lieu of a funeral, those wishing to pay their respects are welcome to donate in his name to the Elks in honor of his 47 years of charitable service: St. George “Dixie” Elks Lodge #1743, 630 W. 1250 N., St. George, UT 84770. Phone (435) 673-1743.
Fred’s loss is deeply felt by his family and all those who knew and loved him.
