Cheyenne Walker

December 1, 1952 – October 9, 2025

Cheyenne Walker, devoted mother, sister and friend unexpectedly passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2025, in the Panguitch Hospital from complications of a stroke. Her final hours were spent doing what she loved - touring through Dixie National Forest with her beloved Seniors.

Cheyenne was born on December 1, 1952, in San Diego, California to Orlo and Rita Jean Gurwell. She lived in many places across the country before settling in Kanab, Utah, in 2005.

She worked several jobs through the years, but her favorite was working as a Carousel attendant at the Spring River Park in Roswell, New Mexico. Cheyenne developed a lifelong love of carousels - collecting many of them, both ceramic figurines and large “real” carousel horses.

Cheyenne established herself as a valuable member of the Kanab community through her volunteerism and willingness to help others, especially other Seniors. She was always the first to say yes when a Senior needed a ride to St. George for a doctor’s appointment, shopping trip, or just to go for a ride. She probably made the drive between Kanab and St. George more often than any other resident in town. Cheyenne also had an undying love for all living things, especially for cats. She preferred to take in the older cats that no one else would. She then provided them with a loving home for the remainder of their days.

Another of Cheyenne’s passions was volunteering. She was a volunteer for many years through the Kane County Volunteer Center, helping with events such as Western Legends and the Care and Share food program. She was also a valued volunteer at Ruthie’s Animal Rescue Charities Thrift Store for several years. Cheyenne’s longest running volunteer position was as the “games and puzzles” lady at the Kane County Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Store where she was an invaluable member of the volunteer team.

She loved movies and was usually first in line to see every movie shown at the Crescent Moon Theater each week, as well as collecting hundreds of movies on DVD and VHS.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her son, Ross; four sisters and one brother. She is survived by her brother, Mike Wilson of Redmond, Oregon.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, November 3, 2025, beginning at 1 p.m. (UT time) at the Kane County Active Living Center located at 172 East 100 North, Kanab, Utah.

In lieu of flowers, please donate “In Memory of Cheyenne Walker” to the animal shelter of your choice.
