Abram Alan Tenney was born on Janu­ary 5, 1988 in Page, Arizona; the firstborn child of Michelle Ten­ney nee Hockenberry and Brian Tenney. He was delivered cesarean section by Dr. Darrell Bunch, after it was discovered that he was breech. Abe wanted to land into life feet first.

His qualities of be­ing careful, meticulous and an outstanding learner appeared early on. He was a nurturing big brother to Amber, who was born when he was 18 months old; and to Autumn, who was born when he was al­most four years old. He attended pre-school at the Lutheran Church in Page. The family spent time living be­tween Arizona, Wash­ington and Virginia before Michelle was accepted at BYU - lead­ing them to settle in Provo, Utah. Abram’s childhood interests were science-driven: visits to museums and aquariums. As soon as he could read, he picked up an encyclo­pedia. He got into a habit of correcting his teachers, which did get him in trouble a time or two. He played as a soccer goalie in Provo for the two years lead­ing up to the family relocating down to Big Water, Utah. There, his focuses shifted to the outdoors: wildlife, hiking, camping, star­gazing and chilling at the creek. He discov­ered the wilderness was beneficial to his mental health (as was the occasional round of Sardines and night games with the Rankin Kids in Gerry and Heather’s yard.)

Throughout his teens, Abe immersed himself into the con­struction trades: set­ting his hands and his intelligence to projects such as the Grand Canyon Train Station remodel, the revival of the Painted Desert Inn, the re-pipe of Big Water Town, the expansion of the Big Water Fire Hall, and so many more. He gradu­ated from Tse Yaato High School in Janu­ary of 2007, where he had been taking college classes online from Yavapai Community College.

Abe would never be the same after los­ing his younger sister Autumn to violence in May of 2012. In the wake of that loss, he rallied himself and his abilities to support his mother Michelle - fix­ing whatever might need fixed and taking a hands-on role in raising up Autumn’s little girl Alaya. He re-plumbed and re-wired the family home. Those close to him became increasingly aware of a profound gift for Chemistry emerging in Abe, despite his having never taken a formal class on the subject. Ever the renaissance man, he also thrived for some time working as a Chef at Amangiri Resort.

After his dad died in 2020, Abe began to struggle with his mental health. He answered the call of wanderlust and took to drifting from place to place, dabbling in different trades as he went. He had some good times living with his sister Amber and her partner Tyler up in Idaho. He was con­tent in his traveling the West, searching for the right place to start putting down his own roots.

Far sooner than any of his loved ones ever imagined, we lost Abe to natural causes on January 17, 2026, in Gallup, New Mexico. We take comfort in remembering that Abram viewed death as a return to nature: a homecoming, not a loss.

Abram Alan Tenney lived many lifetimes within the knowledge he acquired in his Earth Walk. The ulti­mate lifelong learner, he displayed an ex­traordinary discipline in self-educating. He was easy-going, em­pathetic and compas­sionate. Fiercely com­mitted to seeing the good in others, and to giving second chances. A remarkable friend, an active listener and a protector who made sure the ones he loved were safe.

He was preceded in death by his sister Autumn Rae Tenney, his father Brian Ten­ney, his best friend Bowdey Coonand his cousin Amy Yeager nee Partner. He is survived by his best friend and mother Michelle Ten­ney, his sister Amber Tenney (Tyler Kelly), niece Alaya Tenney and the many friends and community mem­bers whose lives he touched.
