KEF’s Art in the Library: the power of art in early education

The Kane Education Foundation has partnered with Kanab City Library to bring art into the lives of young children by having an art cabinet in the children’s room filled with new art projects to do each month. This innovative initiative aims to foster the development of young minds through the power of artistic expression. As the program gains momentum, we are celebrating the numerous benefits arts can bring to the table for early childhood education.

The Kane Education Foundation’s “Art in the Library” is not only transforming our library into a vibrant hub of creativity but also transforming the lives of the children who participate.

Art has long been recognized as a powerful tool for fostering creativity and critical thinking. When introduced to children at a young age, it can have a lasting impact on their cognitive, emotional and social development. The Kane Education Foundation has taken a bold step in ensuring that children have access to art as a part of their learning journey.

Some of the art projects have been bird sculptures with air dry clay, pointillism pictures, pom-pom caterpillars, tissue paper rainbows, pipe cleaner snakes and working with oil pastels. All the projects are designed to capture the imagination of children and inspire them to explore their own artistic inclinations.

One of the key advantages of incorporating art into early education is its ability to enhance problem solving skills. Through activities like painting, drawing and sculpture, children learn to think creatively, experiment with different solutions and adapt when their initial ideas don’t go as planned. These skills are invaluable as they lay the foundation for future academic and life success.

Furthermore, art encourages self-expression and emotional intelligence. Children are encouraged to convey their thoughts, feelings and experiences through their creations, helping them develop a deeper understanding of themselves and others. This can be especially beneficial for young children who may not yet have the verbal skills to express their emotions effectively.

The Kane Education Foundation’s “Art in the Library” is not only transforming our library into a vibrant hub of creativity but also transforming the lives of the children who participate. With the undeniable benefits that art brings to early childhood education, it is hoped that more communities could follow this example, ensuring that young minds everywhere have access to the world of artistic expression and all the growth and joy it can offer.
