Family-owned companies are a staple in Kanab, Utah; a sure sign of a healthy and happy business climate. One local family-owned company hopes to keep that home-town feel as they pass their business down to the next generation. On May 1, owners David and Michelle Crosby passed the Crosby Home and Farm baton onto David’s youngest son Luke Crosby.

When David returned home to Kanab, after purchasing the Hardware store from the Button family back in 1995, having one of his sons take over the family business was his dream. Now, 27 years later, Luke, age 25, has made that dream come true.

Luke, when asked about his new venture, says he looks forward to the opportunity to serve in the community he grew up in. “It’s an exciting new chapter in my life to be buying one of my dad’s businesses,” says Luke. “And I am thrilled the business is staying in the family.”

In late 2018, as David and Michelle began to dream of their retirement years, they pitched the idea of selling to Luke. “I always wanted to take over one of my dad’s businesses, but I knew then I wasn’t quite ready,” Luke shared. “I needed some more schooling and used the past four years to grow, date and get some experience under my belt. I am both excited and nervous to finally be taking over.”

David and Michelle, though excited to be heading off to the Santiago Chile South Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, are also sad to be letting go of this chapter of their lives.

“Over the years we have had a lot of ups and downs, but we have always strived to create a store that was not only competitive in pricing, but one that excelled in customer service,” the couple expressed. “We have always taken pride in having a wide variety of inventory and gone the extra mile to make sure our customers have what they need.”

David and Michelle want to thank the community for all the support and kindness over the years and are excited to see all that Luke accomplishes in his new career.

“Crosby’s has been our home away from home for many years,” both David and Michelle relayed. “We love Kanab and will miss our customers tremendously.”
