James Kesling, 61, of Orderville, UT, was driving south on U.S. 89 on his 1984 Gold Wing motorcycle around 8 p.m. on June 15 when he suffered an apparent heart attack.

Utah Highway Patrol officials reported observants said the man appeared to be unconscious, causing his motorcycle to drift off to the right side of the highway. The motorcycle hit some boulders and tree limbs and began to flip, end over end. Kesling was thrown from the motorcycle, coming to rest about 375 feet from the roadway. He was wearing a helmet.

The UHP said medical professionals have determined that Kesling’s heart had stopped prior to impact, due to non-bleeding wounds and lack of bruising to the skin from the impact of the crash.
