The Kane County Hospital Foundation held its inaugural Community of Caring Gala and Auction on June 4, 2011. Bob Johnson, a friend of the Kane County Hospital, explained the importance of the community’s continued support of the hospital, and its endeavors to provide quality care for the residents of Kane County and surrounding areas. The hospital is only one of seven independent community hospitals in the state of Utah.

The Foundation spearheaded this event to help the hospital raise money towards the purchase of a new 16-slice CT scanner costing $350,000. The doctors use the CT scanner to provide a quick method of diagnosing the patient’s care and needed treatment.

The purchase of a $50 ticket as a donation to the Foundation’s Gala treated members of the community to entertainment by award-winning western singer Mary Kaye Knaphus and The Duel, a scrumptious dinner provided by Parry Lodge, and a live auction conducted by auctioneer Vern Ratzlaff, and Marty Ott. Local businesses and individuals of the community donated the items for both the live and silent auctions.

There were 20 combinations of beautifully-wrapped baskets and services offered for the silent auction and door prize. Ratzlaff and Ott auctioned off 13 donated items comprised of hotel stays (two days to a week), trips, hand crafted items and photographs.

The event was held on the beautiful and historic Maynard Dixon property, courtesy of owners Susan and Paul Bingham, who also provided the invitations, posters and programs. It was a time to get reacquainted with old friends, and to meet new ones. The Foundation’s June 4 Gala raised over $9,000 for the CT scanner.

Kathleen Salter, as a member of the Foundation Gala Committee, thanked members Susan Bingham, Elizabeth Berkhoudt, Melissa Steimer, Kelly Stowell, Vern Ratzlaff, master of ceremonies John Polis and treasurer Teresa Trujillo for all their hard work in making the Gala a success. Most of all, a big thank you went to the citizens of Kane County for caring.
