Senior Ian Hiscock of Kanab High School and Junior Addie Bistline of Valley High School show off their gold medals won in a Skills USA competition held at Salt Lake Community College on March 26, 2010. The students took first place in the state in the area of audio production.

Skills USA is a hands-on organization that promotes leadership, professionalism, positive work habits and proficiency in modern technology, with competitions held in such areas as graphics design, animation, advertising design, photography, audio production and video production.

Ian and Addie, and other teams from around the state, were given four hours to produce a one minute audio spot promoting Skills USA. They were required to include one live interview, one live sound effect, and underlying music, using sound equipment which they had to provide. By placing first in the state, the two students will now be traveling to Kansas City, MO, in June, to compete in the Skills USA national competition. Congratulations and good luck, Ian and Addie!

Other Kane County students who participated in the Skills USA state competition include Patrick Lopez (KHS), Kasey Fox (KHS), Clarissa Winter (VHS), and Brooks Eberly (VHS). Brooks took third place in Pin Design. The other three competed in video product development with a very creative documentary about Kanab High School’s Skills USA group. Congratulations to all!
