The Kanab City Council has announced that Duane Huffman has been selected as the new city manager. He has big shoes to fill, following former City Manager Keith McAllister, who retired after 35 years serving the community.

Huffman’s Phoenix background has most recently been as chief legislative liaison for Arizona Health Services. “I have done a lot of work with state agencies and lobbyists,” commented Huffman. He added that knowledge would help better promote Kanab.

He feels Kanab is a perfect fit for his educational background. Huffman earned a public administrative degree, with an emphasis on local administration and finance. “I’m very excited about working with Mayor Laycook and the Kanab City Council. Everyone knows everyone who lives here. But it’s a very diverse community.”

Huffman views his chief job responsibilities in serving as town manager as assisting the council and the mayor, and implementing their decisions.

Charmed by the community, the new town manager said he and wife Maria have three sons, five, two and four months. “We’re new to the area, and we’re impressed by the parks, pool and library. I do see this position as a long term job,” said Huffman, adding that his family hopes to put down roots here.
