Research indicates that robotics activities such as First Lego League (FLL) promote student engagement in and mastery of engineering skills and innovation. Through participation in FLL, students learn robotics, engineering, teamwork, research skills, problem-solving and presentation skills.

First Lego League robotics allows the participants to innovate using; legos, robotics, teamwork and coding to address real-world issues. The theme this year is Cargo Connect. The teams are tasked with identifying and addressing specific issues in transportation.

Kane County 4-H is thrilled to be the sponsor of First Lego League in Kane County and provide the funding and logistical support for the 14 Junior and senior teams participating this year.

During the season, the students have the opportunity to work together as a team to:

• design and build a robot

• code the program to make the robot complete tasks

• participate in a locally hosted scrimmage

• compete at the end of season FLL competition hosted this year in St. George at Dixie State University.

On November 9, Kane 4-H hosted a scrimmage for the local senior FLL teams. Each team had the opportunity to participate in a robot competition, present their project to a panel of judges and receive instruction on presentation skills and techniques.
