The Long Valley Lions Club Junior Rodeo Series bucked-off its first of four monthly outings at the Carroll Arena next to the Kane County North Events Center on Saturday, June 28.

This go-round included some 112 participants, each requiring a $25 season membership fee, and a $5 entry per event.  Prize money was distributed for standings as the evening progressed, beginning at 6 p.m. and into the wee hours past 2 a.m.

Ultimately, in September, with the much-coveted championship, second and third place buckles, as well as cash prizes on the line, an air of genuine enthusiasm charged the youthful atmosphere among these seemingly tireless competitors aging from 0-18 throughout their seven separate divisions.  Compensation for the individual All-Around Champion finishing with the greatest aggregate points is yet to be determined.

Grateful acknowledgements for their generous unsung contributions are due to Tyler Baird (dragging the arena grounds, also provision of sheep and rough stock), John Reese and Josh Jennings (roping stock) and Marla Jennings (goats). Not to mention, to the Lions Club for their priceless insurance coverage!

Next up, with friendly rivals from as far away as Page, St. George and Cedar City, is scheduled for July 18.  Free admission.
