Last weekend, the Kanab High wrestling team traveled to the Divisional tournament in Parowan, Utah, to wrestle for a place in the state tournament to be held this weekend, February 7-8, at the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield, Utah.

Mikey Warino came into the tournament with a #2 seed in the 195-pound class and battled his way through a tough bracket.

In the semi-final match Warino won a close one and advanced to the finals where he wrestled an opponent from Millard High School that had beaten him previously in the season. In the end Warino stood at the top of the podium after a 4-1 victory.

Jace Seely, wrestling at 126 pounds, also made it to the finals. However, he fell just short of the top of the podium and placed second.

Other wrestlers who wrestled well included a third place finish from Luke Browning and Clark Ray, 120 pounds and 160 pounds respectively.

In all, 12 of the 17 wrestlers from Kanab whho competed in the divisional tournament qualified for the state tournament.
