Kane County's Rob Van Dyke named 2019 Attorney of the Year
The Utah Association of Counties (UAC) is honored to recognize Rob Van Dyke as the 2019 Attorney of the Year, for his exceptional efforts and accomplishments as the Kane County Attorney.
UAC is a private, non-profit organization offering a broad range of management, training and intergovernmental relations services to counties, including commissioners and other elected officials (affiliates).
Affiliates of the Year are selected from and voted on by their peers for demonstrating outstanding work ethic, bold leadership, and creative problem solving throughout the past year.
After obtaining his law degree from the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law in 2009, Rob began his career in 2010 as Kane County Deputy Attorney. He stayed in that role for four years, after which he was elected as the Kane County Attorney for the past five years.
Among Rob’s accomplishments is the ground-breaking of the Kane County Children’s Justice Center in June of 2019. He was a strong advocate for making the idea a reality. “What we are doing here matters. We know we are here to help children in some of the worst possible situations,” Van Dyke said, to the crowd gathered at the ground-breaking ceremony.
“Rob has been an essential asset to Kane County and UAC board. He is extremely educated and well versed in what is needed for legal programs to excel. He does a great job leading his office as he keeps their county out of legal trouble, and prosecutes criminals fairly. Kane County is fortunate to have him on their side,” stated Brandy Grace, Utah Association of Counties CEO.
The Utah Association of Counties (UAC) was founded in 1924 to help counties provide effective county government to the people of Utah. UAC’s purpose is to improve the operation of Utah’s county governments and thereby improve the quality of services that counties provide to their residents.
The County Attorney administers the Drug Court Program, the Children’s Justice Center, and Victim Services.
Currently the Kane County Attorney’s Office also contracts with Kanab City for their misdemeanor criminal prosecution and as general legal counsel for the Kanab City Council and Kanab City Planning Commission.
Rob Van Dyke has two deputy attorneys, Jeff Stott and Reid Mann. The County Attorney acts as general legal counsel for the county, each elected official and all of the county departments.
