Come to Red Rocktoberfest and Sidewalk Chalk Festival
It’s that time of year again! Red Rocktoberfest – Canyon to Canyon Art Walk is back for a fifth year! This one of a kind event is hosted by the Kanab Arts Council in association with many local businesses throughout Kanab.
Walk Kanab’s Merchant Mile from Willow Canyon Outdoor and Coffee Shop to Sego Restaurant. Along the Merchant Mile stop into each business along the way to see what great specials, offers, freebies, and activities are available for the whole family. Each business has something different to offer, so be sure to check out each one!
Along the Merchant Mile you can find Chalk Artists, Hay Rides, Pumpkin Painting Contest, Food Vendors, Root Beer Garden, Free Pizza Slice, Live Music & Dancers, Face Painting, Art Demonstrations and much more!
At the end of the Merchant Mile lies Sego Restaurant. Sego has helped put Kanab on the map as a Foodie Destination and won two awards in 2018 within the Foodie community. Stop by Sego at 7 p.m. for authentic German food and drinks with Live Music!
Don’t miss out on this great event. Find your magic with us at this year’s Red Rocktoberfest – Canyon to Canyon Art Walk.
Chalk Art Festival
Artists can begin working at 3:30 p.m., on October 17, and work up until 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, when the judging begins. Check in at Denny’s Wigwam to get chalk and supplies.
This year, there is a total of $2,000 in cash prizes: $500 for best family entry; $500 for best in show; and $1,000 to be split between categories of Adult, High School, Middle School, and Elementary.
This is a delightful event, and a great way to get out with your family to create and have fun with art.
Entries are $25 for adults and groups. Students can enter for free!
Proceeds and donations will go toward an arts scholarship for one or two dedicated art students in our area. The scholarship will be given out in May at the end of the school year.
We are excited to feature the work of three talented artists; Jennifer Capson and the dynamic mother/daughter team Sherry and Madelyn Rauch. All three artists bring their artwork to life with vibrant colors and fun and interesting themes.
For questions and to sign up, call or e-mail Nichole Houston at 801-755-244 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Sherry Rauch has been an artist, art director and designer for over 25 years, working in a variety of mediums including digital design, acrylic, oil and pastels. Energy, color and simplification of objects, including type, are her focus of interest.
Currently, She is working on a series of paintings from a unique location in Utah and also collaborating with her daughter, Madeline Rauch, on an alphabet book featuring mythical creatures.
“The world needs to be a place of joy and playfulness,” says Sherry. “I hope I can contribute some of this into the world with my art.”
Madeline enjoys drawing adventurous fantastical creatures at chalk festivals all over Utah, while her mother Sherry is working on a series of wind-up toys. We look forward to seeing what magical and exciting work they create for us this year.
Jennifer Capson lives in Kanab with her husband, Travis, and their four children.
She loved participating in this event last year, creating a large gumball machine out of chalk. Walking down the street to see the contest entries and talking with those who attended the event were her favorite highlights.
Jennifer recently completed a mural in town of Jacob Hamblin, thanks to Eve Levrae and the “what is art” gallery. She is grateful she was asked to return for some more chalk art this year, and looks forward to seeing you and the new creations this weekend!
