You might say hospitality and tourism are in new Kane County Assistant Travel Director Janette Peatross’ blood. As the daughter of Kanab residents and former Denny’s Wigwam owners Dennis and Kathy Judd, she’s been around the industry since she was a young girl.

“They owned Denny’s from 1970 until 2006,” recalled Peatross. “I think our entire family worked there in some capacity at one time or another. I remember working in the ice cream parlor.”

Peatross said it was a great family business, and she loved meeting visitors from all over the world. “I remember the buses coming in. We just loved the tourists!”

She said that after the cookouts, they would have western skits using the guests as the actors, complete with a fake gunfight out in front! “It was fun to grow up with that.”

Peatross and husband Wade moved to Kanab 15 years ago. He works in IT at Best Friends. Janette most recently worked at Kanab High School. They have three children – Judd, 18, Jocee, 16, and Gavin, 13.

The new Assistant Travel Director jumped at the chance to return to work in the travel industry once again! With a bachelor degree in hospitality, Peatross did some event planning and travel marketing while living in Salt Lake City.

Peatross started her new job on June 17, and along with the friendly staff at the Office of Tourism, will be promoting Kane County and southern Utah.

“I’m really excited to be promoting this beautiful place where I grew up,” concluded Peatross. “It’s an awesome opportunity!”
