Exciting changes for Western Legends 2019
Mark your calendars for the amazing, revamped Western Legends Heritage and Music Festival on August 15-17, 2019! Kane County is stepping in to update this beloved festival and add great new elements, including country music and western heritage, making the festival bigger and better than ever.
“The western movies filmed here and the amazing actors who were in the films have been such an exciting part of this event. However, for the event to survive, there needs to be a shift in focus to include additional major elements that will be sustainable for many years to come. We’re excited to be able to step in and add new, exciting elements to keep the event going and to stimulate attendance,” said Camille Johnson Taylor, Director of Kane County Office of Tourism.
Western Legends Roundup will still be a label used for the parts of the event that deal with the movie stars.
The new and improved event will include a two-day battle of country and western bands called, “Country Battle USA.” There will be 15 bands allowed to compete, and $15,000 in prize money – winner takes all. The winner will perform during a street dance finale on Saturday night. If you are interested in applying for Country Battle USA, the application can be found online at www.kanabwesternlegends.com
Other new elements include a costume contest, wagon rides, line dancing and melodramas, including a staged train robbery and much more. The event planners hope to include a rodeo by next year.
Vicki Hooper, Executive Director of Kane County Events & Volunteer Center, says, “We appreciate the trust that the Western Legends board has placed in us to let us step in and work some magic on this event. We specialize in events, and we know we can build on the foundation they’ve established and enhance the event even further. It’s important to our community, and we hope everyone will be proud of the new event.”
Guests at the festival will still enjoy favorite events like Dinner with the Stars, Breakfast with the Stars, the High Noon Parade with longhorn cattle, the wagon train, historic movie bus tours, and the Kansas City Barbeque Contest.
The street fair, with great craft and food vendors, and live entertainment, will be on Friday and Saturday, August 16 and 17.
The Western Legends Roundup board, Kane County Office of Tourism, and Kane County Events & Volunteer Center are spending great amounts of time, talent and effort while working together to make sure Western Legends will continue to be a great event for many years to come.
