Mother's Day 10K recap
Thanks to all who came out for the Kanab Mother’s Day 10K race on Saturday, May 12! Shortly after 7 a.m., 184 participants began down the scenic course on Hwy 89 from Moqui Cave toward Kanab. The weather was perfect and the spirits were high at the finish line at Jacob Hamblin Park.
In the men’s overall, we had quite a race! Coming in first place was David Smith, 61, from St. George, with a time of 44:16. Hot on his heels was Jake Church, 16, from Kanab at 44:17, and, also from Kanab, Joseph Brower, 40, finished third just 30 seconds later with a time of 44:46. Doesn’t get much closer than that!
Women’s overall win goes to Elizabeth Richardi, 28, from Page, Ariz., with a time of 45:46. She was followed by Chloe Crosby, 19, of Kanab, with a time of 49:07 for second place and Lorraine Christian, 57, of St. George, with a time of 49:30 for third.
In addition to unique sandstone trophies from Western Hills, our overall finishers Smith and Richardi also received $100 off a pair of running shoes from our sponsor, St. George Running Center. They also provided $50 gift certificates for the male and female second place overall finishers, $35 gift certificates for third place overall finishers, and $20 gift certificates for each first place division winners. Trophies were awarded three deep to each age division. All runners received a shirt designed by local artist Mikelle Stott.
This year, both the Mother-Daughter and Mother-Son teams were won by local Kanab moms and kids! The Mother-Daughter winners were Julie and Savanah Jenson, and the Mother-Son winners were Jill and Harry Williams. Each team won gift certificates to Willow Canyon Outdoor and Houston’s Restaurant.
