The Kanab High School softball team has been on a roll this season. They started off strong with a big win against Piute and continued to later win five games in a row. This softball season has become one to remember.

On Tuesday, April 17, the Lady Cowboys traveled to play at Milford High School. Not only did they win 17-0, but the girls had a perfect game! This is the first time there has been a perfect game in Kanab for both baseball and softball. A perfect game is extremely rare. It is when no mistakes are made and no one from the opposing team gets on base.

Autumn Shinski was the pitcher for Kanab. She never walked or hit a player and pitched perfectly throughout the entire game, striking out many girls. When the Milford Tigers did hit the ball, the Kanab defense would make the play, either catching it or getting the out at first base. No one from Milford got on base due to the strong efforts of the Lady Cowboys.

After the big win on Tuesday, Kanab played Milford in Kanab on Friday. The Tigers came out not wanting to roll over and they put up a good fight. However, the Lady Cowboy softball team came out stronger and won 21-5. In the last inning, Autumn Shinski got up to bat with the bases loaded and hit it over the fence! First grand slam this season!

Coaches- Kevin Orton, John Horan, Emma Reidhead and Taylor Crowther have been a great help this season and make a big difference.

The entire team fights hard every game and never gives up! One girl on the team said, “It’s rare to see a team like this. We don’t give up, not on ourselves or on others. When we or someone else on the team makes a mistake, we don’t get down. We learn, and we change, we focus on the next pitch. We keep going and we keep fighting. That is what makes us such a strong team. Everyone has progressed so much and it’s astonishing to see what we were at the beginning of the season to now. I believe in this team, and I’m happy and proud to be a part of this team and Kanab High School.”

Come and support the softball team’s home game against Beaver this Friday, April 27.
