A hallmark of the Kanab July 4th Parade is family participation. The Christmas Light Parade, scheduled for Saturday, November 28, could possibly be an even better opportunity to get the whole family involved and into the Christmas spirit. The theme for this year’s parade is “Cowboy Christmas.”

Thanksgiving is the biggest holiday for families and friends coming together, and what better way to cap off a couple of days together than bundling up and riding the Kanab parade route together. Parade organizers want to encourage everyone to participate. Get your family, friends and pets on board.

Before the parade, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., participants and watchers can enjoy a Christmas Festival of treats, art and music on the Main Street Plaza (Center and Main to 100 North Main). The treats, which will include donuts and Chef Shon’s s’mores, are free courtesy of Kanab City and the Kanab Area Chamber of Commerce.

Parade organizers said awards would be given this year right after the parade in the festival area at the Main Street Plaza. The awards will include: Griswald Award (the most over-the-top with the lights), ?Charlie Brown Award (the “shame” award for the most underwhelming entry), Most Original Award, John Wayne Award for the best use of the Cowboy Christmas theme, and the Ultimate Award for the crowd favorite.
