Kanab Planning and Zoning revokes Viresco's Conditional Use Permit
With what will come as good news for many Kane County residents, the Kanab Planning and Zoning Commission formally revoked the Conditional Use Permit (CUP) Viresco Industries Jim Guthrie obtained on November 22, 2010, to construct an experimental coal gasification plant on the south side of town.
Viresco failed to act on Provisions 3-7 of the CUP in a timely manner, and no activity at the site had occurred in well over a year.
Guthrie had been notified of the revocation hearing date and failed to send any representative on his behalf.
In a brief e-mail on August 21 to Kanab City Mayor Robert Houston, Guthrie stated he had no interest in retaining the CUP and wished the citizens of Kanab well.
Planning Commission member Joan Thatcher made the motion to rescind Viresco’s ?CUP, which passed unanimously, thus ending what has been a controversial and divisive issue for Kanab’s citizens over the past four years.
