Two killed in head-on crash near Big Water
Two people were killed in a head-on collision on Saturday, August 30, 2014, around 12:55 p.m. on Highway 89 near Big Water, Utah.
According to the Utah Highway Patrol accident report and investigating officer Nick Berrie, Jay L Russel of Page, Arizona, was traveling north on Hwy 89 in his 2006 Acura. For no known reason, Russel drifted into the southbound lane and struck head-on the 2002 Honda Civic driven by Richard E Nutt of Douglas, Georgia. Russell was not wearing his seatbelt. However, both drivers were fatally injured. Both men were traveling alone.
A third vehicle traveling southbound behind Nutt, driven by Thomas Wardon of Helper, Utah, was unable to stop in time and hit Nutt’s passenger door after the collision with Russell. No one in the third vehicle sustained any injuries.
