The 6th annual Kane County Business Summit takes place January 16-17, at the Stampin’ Up! manufacturing facility, located at 1400 S Highway 89A ini Kanab. The overall theme of the summit is ”Raising Kane: You Belong,” and starts at 6 p.m. on January 16, covering topics related to the state of economy and business trends, especially at state and national levels, with a special presentation by the Economic Development Corporation of Utah (EDCU). Following EDCU on January 16 is a customer service training by professor Greg Powell, entitled “Service Elevated,” starting at 7 p.m. and is offered at no charge to community members.

On January 17, registration and breakfast starts at 7:30 a.m., prior to the first session beginning at 8 a.m. This session will cover local energy-related developments and issues. The second session, entitled “making technology work for your business,” will cover emerging technologies and tools available on the market to businesses.

The session will highlight key trends and strategic initiatives allowing rural businesses to compete in a global market.

The third session is a follow up to last year’s business summit covering branding, and the fourth session includes local community updates.

Lunch will precede the summit keynote speaker at noon.

Proceedings on January 16 are offered at no charge to community members. Summit activities on January 17 are $15 per person for advanced registration and $20 at the door on the day of the event.

Greg Powell holds a M.B.A. from Utah State University. He is currently an Associate Professor of Management in the School of Business at Southern Utah University, where he teaches Management, Leadership and Organizational Behavior. He is the former Director of the Southern Utah University Small Business Development Center.

Powell is a founding partner of Meridian Consulting Group, LC. MCG offers a variety of services to small and medium-size ventures, including management coaching and development, business strategy, marketing research, and economic research and analysis. His personal expertise lies in the areas of change management, leadership and executive/supervisor development, and customer service.
