Writers of the Purple Sage, one of Utah’s most prestigious emerging writer retreats, will convene at the Kanab Middle School on Friday, October 19, and Saturday, October 20.  Topics for the retreat include lessons from experienced Utah writers, self-publishing and e-books, compelling writing, working with an editor, on-the-spot creative writing instruction, and resources for Utah writers.

Keynote speakers include authors Max Werner, Logan Hebner, Dr. Stephen Armstrong, Jana Richman, and a group presentation from Writers Cubed.

The event begins on Friday, October 19, with an evening reception and book presentation by Max Werner, a featured speaker from the Authors on Main Street (AMS) program from the Utah Humanities Council. The AMS is designed for groups and organizations to host Utah authors to engage readers through dialogue and discussion about the ideas raised in the authors books.

On Saturday, October 20, starting at 8 a.m., break-out sessions of the day address ways to improve communication skills through the literary arts with seminars devoted to learning how the featured speakers became successful in their literary craft. In addition, presenters will discuss important topics such as working with an editor and resources available to help writers succeed in Utah, with David Pace, literary director of the Utah Division of Arts and Museums. Writers Cubed, founders of the Teen Author Boot Camp, will teach how writing can work for you in: corporate freelancing, blogging/marketing, and traditional/independent publishing.

The event registration fee is $15, and the fee includes breakfast and lunch on October 20. Everyone is invited to attend the reception on October 19 at no cost, thanks to the Utah Humanities Council AMS program.
