Local law enforcement officers receive Life Saving Award
Three local officers were honored during Tuesday’s Fredonia Town Council meeting. Coconino County Sheriff Bill Pribil, accompanied by Chief Deputy Jim Driscoll and Commander Rex Gilliland, said Sgt. Brett Axlund, who supervises the area with Sgt. Paul Campbell, nominated the officers for the Coconino County Sheriff’s Life Saving Award.
Deputy Marshal JD Horlacher, Coconino County Deputy Sheriff Jason Bundy and Dan Watson were called out on September 4, 2012, to Fredonia resident Ray Finley who was trapped under the bucket of a Bobcat and severely injured. Officer Horlacher removed his duty belt and climbed into the cab of the Bobcat to raise the bucket. As the bucket was raised, Watson and Bundy were able to remove Finley. Life saving CPR was started and Finley was saved.
According to Sheriff Pribil, “We believe if it had not been for their quick response, Finley would have perished.” Because of this, Sheriff Pribil proudly honored the officers with the Life Saving Award.
