Kanab, or K-Town as local youth like to call their hometown, is about to become home to what Matt Brown of the Kane County Office of Economic Development hopes is the beginning of several trail-running/walking events to come.

The K-Town X-Canyons, or KTX , will be held September 8 and consist of a 5K and 10K event on the same course beginning in Pugh Canyon (Coral Cliffs Golf Course) traveling around the face of the K-Hill right under the “K” and ending in Tom’s Canyon (La Estancia).

The event is open to all ages. Brown said trail runners or hikers/walkers are encouraged to join the fun. The course is laid out on existing trails people enjoy everyday. In his words, “this is a fairly easy course that gets you up in the hills to a beautiful vantage point of Kanab that you’ll never see from the street or sidewalk.”

Trail running and walking is increasingly replacing walking and running on streets and sidewalks because of the variety trails provide. Brown indicated a significant effort is being made to establish Kanab as one of the top places to enjoy this type of outdoor activity. The Grand-to-Grand Ultra (G2G), which runs two weeks after the KTX and travels over 160 miles of Kane County and northern Arizona, is the flagship of this effort. The G2G will have competitors from 15 countries competing in the first event of its kind in North America.
