The Kanab Cowgirls were not very gracious hosts as they claimed the championship of their own Cowgirl Classic last weekend. Kanab pounded Gunnison on Friday night 66-27, then defeated Bryce Valley in the championship game on Saturday 39-28.

In the game against Gunnison, Tourament MVP Calli Jackson led the Cowgirls with 23 points. Kaytee Glover netted 10 and Whitney Houston added eight, with Jessika Houston and Katlyn Glover scoring five apiece. Kanab jumped out to a 35-14 lead by halftime and coasted from there.

In the championship game, the Cowgirls once again started fast, scoring 13 points in each of the first two quarters, to take a commanding 26-10 lead at the break. A big fourth quarter by the Lady Mustangs brought the final deficit to 11 points, 39-28. The balanced Cowgirl attack was led by Calli Jackson and Kaytee Glover with eight points each. Shaylee McDonald popped in seven, with Josie Orton and Whitney Houston adding five apiece.

Earlier in the week on Tuesday, Kanab hammered 3-A Hurricane 71-48. The one-two punch of Kaytee Glover and Calli Jackson accounted for 59 of the Cowgirls’ 71 points, with Glover pouring in 30 and Jackson 29. Jackson also pulled down 17 boards, while Glover hit four three-pointers.

Kanab shot out to a 19-8 first quarter lead. They added 18 more in the second frame to lead 38-22 at the break. Twenty one more points in the third frame gave Kanab a commanding 59-30 lead heading into the final stanza.

On the boys side, the Kanab Cowboys won one last week, and lost two. On Wednesday, Panguitch was 10 better than the ‘Boys, winning 63-53. The Bobcats outscored the locals 17-8 in the first period, with the Cowboys playing them pretty even the rest of the way. Conor Corry pumped in 15 points, with Brandon Jenson adding 13, to pace the Cowboy attack.

On Friday in Richfield, Kanab beat South Summit 65-54, thanks mainly to a big second quarter where they outscored the Wildcats 23-14. Jenson tallied 20 points to lead the Cowboys. Craig Stirland netted 14 and Tyler Glover added 11.

On Saturday, Kanab was beat up by Richfield 54-30 at their tournament. The Cowboys could only manage to score six points in each of the second and fourth periods. Conor Corry scored eight points and Tyler Glover added seven to lead Kanab.
