Jr. Small Town Idol finale
The fabulous final four Jr. Small Town Idol contestants put on a spectacular show April 16. Andrea Fisher and Haley Reidhead of Kanab, and Bailie Lathim and Savannah Andrews of Fredonia, each performed two songs of their choice to a packed CR Diner.
The crowd danced, clapped and cried, as each of the talented young stars showed their versatility and talent through song. Several guest performers, including Small Town Idol winner, Brian Hilding, performed in between sets and during the tallying of the final scores.
The crowd held its breath as event coordinator, Crystal Mognett, took the stage with the final results. Prior to announcing the winners, Mognett handed out a few special awards.
First, she thanked the judges profusely for their continued dedication and hard work. It isn’t easy to judge an event like this, but they did it with style. Vaelyn Mackelprang of Fredonia, Jaime Black of Kanab and Rhonda Franklin of Orderville (sitting in for Mary Jane Richins of Kanab) judged the final round of competition. They were thanked with gorgeous flowers from Crystal Mognett.
Crystal gave certificates of appreciation to Celeste Mognett for her incredible work as the DJ for the event and to Jimmy Goldstein for his energetic work as event emcee. Next, she named Haley Reidhead country artist of the year and Andrea Fisher rock artist of the year, both having received top scores for those nights of competition, and presented them with framed certificates.
Finally, the moment everyone waited for. Crystal began to call up contestants for their prizes.
All 15 Jr. Idol stars were presented with prize packages. It was reiterated how incredibly talented each of the contestants were. At last, the final four places were announced. Haley Reidhead received fourth place and Andrea Fisher third. Bailie Lathim and Savannah Andrews were called to the stage.
As the girls tightly held hands in nervous anticipation, Savannah Andrews was named the 2009 Jr. Small Town Idol. The judging was very close for each of the final four, but the decision was unanimous with all three judges naming Savannah the top scorer.
The Fredonia Chamber of Commerce’s Jr. Small Town Idol could not have been so successful without the wonderful sponsors from the community: Dave and Tracy Stumpf, KHilding Photography, Vaelyn Mackelprang, Escobars, Duke’s, Zion’s Pharmacy, Kanab Pool-Cowboy Watering Hole, Fredonia Pool, Pizza Hut, Western River Expeditions, Honey’s Jubilee, Best Friends Animal Society, Lotsa Motsa Pizza and CR Diner.
