Mackelprang, Kanab part ways
Long time Kanab City Attorney Van Mackelprang and the City of Kanab have reached a severance agreement of $90,200, minus normal employment and tax withholdings. In addition, the city agreed to not contest any claim for unemployment benefits.
Serving as Kanab City Attorney since 1992, Mackelprang’s employment ended July 1, 2011.
The severance agreement also had a claim release provision. The condition is that upon execution of the agreement, Mackelprang will release any and all “claims” he may have against the city. He also agreed to never re-apply for employment with the city.
According to Kanab City Manager Duane Huffman, the city has not made a decision on how best to handle its long-term legal needs, but it’s likely that they’ll continue to contract for legal services in the short-term.
