The Kanab Cowboys played a tough game against the Millard Eagles last Friday night, but came up short, 34-21.

The Eagles got on the scoreboard first on a six yard run by Alcala at the 9:49 mark of the first period.

Kanab answered on their next drive, knotting the game at 7-7 on an eight yard dash by Helaman Garcia three and a half minutes later.

Wiith 2:29 left in the first frame, Robinson scored for Millard on a run of eight yards to give them a 14-7 lead. The Eagles added two more scores in the second quarter to take a commanding 28-7 lead at the half.

Midway through the third period, quarterback Kade Quarnberg hooked up with his favorite target, receiver Kyson McBride, on a 30 yard touchdown pass to get Kanab within 14 points, at 28-14. That was the only score of the quarter.

Before Kanab could get any closer, Millard added their final TD with 8:45 left on the clock on a pass from Robinson to Araos to lead 34-14.

The Cowboys weren’t finished though, as a little over a minute later Quarnberg and McBride connected on another scoring pass play, this one from 28 yards out, to make the score 34-21.

For the game, Kanab had 20 first downs to Millard’s 12, and outgained the Eagles with 349 yards of offense to their 329.

Quarnberg completed eight of 19 passes for 119 yards and two TD’s. McBride hauled in five of those throws for 85 yards and two scores. Fullback Cody Barber ran for 95 yards on 22 carries, while Garcia picked up 87 yards on 18 attempts.

The same three players led the defense, with McBride getting five solo tackles and two assists; Barber four solos and three assists; and Garcia four solos and one assist.

This week, Kanab plays at Enterprise with kickoff at 7 p.m.
