KHS cross country off to a fast start
Cross country season has started, and is taking off! The Kanab Cowboy team is working hard, and reaping the rewards. We’re bigger and better than ever with nearly the largest team in the region, 20 runners and counting! We are bound for success with our returning team and new members. Both our girls and boys teams are dedicated and ready to step up and take the prize waiting for them.
The first meet was on September 1 in Beaver. Our runners definitely gave the other team a heads-up of what to expect throughout the season. Yanni Gallagher took second, Rocky Hestand placed 11th and David Kirby came in 14th.
For the girls, Lyndsey Robinson placed fourth, Mariah Clayson finished 10th, and everyone received excellent times and personal records! Our boys team placed second overall. It was a terrific first meet!
On September 8, our team competed in Enterprise, where the wind was in our favor. Nearly all of our runners shaved seconds, and some even minutes, off their times from the previous meet.
Yanni Gallagher made great leaps on this course where he placed 10th last September. This year Yanni placed second, just behind Parowan’s Ammon Blauer, who won the race. With just seconds between the two, a rivalry is definitely beginning.
Rocky Hestand placed fourth for Kanab, while David Kirby came in seventh, only seconds behind him. David Nelson claimed 14th and Conor Corry finished 17th. Our boy’s team placed first with 44 points, receiving a well-deserved trophy!
Lyndsey Robinson came in fourth, with Mariah Clayson close behind finishing seventh for the girls. Freshman Dayna Kirby came in 11th and Hannah Zweifel was 24th for the girl’s team. Although we did not have enough girls to receive a team score, we have more girl runners in training for our next meet.
The next meet is on September 15 at Parowan High School, where we expect to leave with great results. Great job and good luck cross country!
