Following the flooding of last weekend, we in Kanab City Administration have been assessing the event from many angles in an effort to facilitate cleanup and to mitigate future events where we can.

At this time, I would like to take a moment and extend my personal appreciation and gratitude to the community.

First to the various agencies; Kanab City Fire Department, Police Department, Public Works, all of the Kane County agencies who pitched in, Search and Rescue, BLM, local utilities and businesses.

A big thank you to all of the volunteers… individuals who just showed up, put aside their personal comfort and pitched in, giving of their time and energy. In truth, the public agencies alone could not have done the work without you folks. And to every neighbor who helped their neighbor because it’s the right thing to do, thank you.

It’s been said misery is a place none of us really know until we are actually there. I am mindful that many of you are still struggling to get your lives, property and businesses back in order. It is my hope and prayer that each day brings you an increase in hope and strength and closer to recovery.

I wish I could adequately express my feeling about you, the people of Kanab. Just know that I am so very proud of you, and again extend my personal appreciation and gratitude for all that you do for your neighbors and community.
