The Southern Utah News earned seven state excellence awards in the Utah Better Newspaper Contest. Contest winners, which are judged by another state newspaper association, were announced at the Utah Press Association’s annual winter convention held this past weekend in St. George.

The Southern Utah News won first place in Group I (the smallest papers, but with the largest number of competitors), for Best Use of Ad Color for a full-page ad promoting the Greyhound Gathering.

The SUN also took first place for Best Classified Ad Page or Pages. Second place was awarded to the SUN for Best Feature Column (Domestic Blitz). Third place finishes were received for Best Editor’s Column (Dixie Speaks), Best In-House Promotion (the Photo Contest for the Kanab Area Vacation Guide), Best R.O.P. Ad Campaign (the Pigskin Predictions Football Contest), and Best In-House Produced Ad (Cowboys win state in baseball).
