There is no other community event like this. From our newspaper to our auto mechanics, grocers and restaurants, the local business community comes together to support the annual holiday festival in Kanab, along with the many parents and music-loving volunteers who put the festival together.

This year’s festival is “Christmas is for the Birds,” beginning on Thursday, December 3, with the second annual Parade of Lights that evening.

The big event is the elegant and always fabulous dinner/concert on Friday night, December 4. This year’s concert will be a 90-minute joint performance by the Symphony of the Canyons, with the Kanab High School performing groups X-Press and Encore. Tickets are still available at Glaziers FoodTown, Honey’s Jubilee and Zion Pharmacy.

On Saturday, December 5, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the daytime festivities take place, culminating with an exciting raffle at the end of the day. As always, there will be food and entertainment throughout the day, including school performing groups, cloggers, dancers and singers. There will be numerous vendor booths offering a variety of holiday shopping choices.

The raffle would not be possible if not for the generosity of local business establishments and citizens, who open their wallets to support music in our schools and community. They have donated money, gift baskets worth hundreds of dollars, certificates and other items for the raffle. The proceeds benefit both the Symphony of the Canyons and the Kanab High School Music Department.

Let us help to nurture those involved in keeping music alive by supporting their efforts. “Christmas is for the Birds” is an important fundraiser for the Symphony of the Canyons and the KHS Music Department.

Please attend the events, do some Christmas shopping on Saturday, buy raffle tickets, and support these generous local establishments.

“Music is enough for a lifetime, but a lifetime is not enough for music.”
