Leigh Men's Golf Club Champ
The weather was almost perfect, and so was Tracy Leigh’s game on Saturday when the Men’s League played the Club Championship match. Leigh posted a low gross of 77 to take the bragging rights, as well as some great prizes. Buddy Cox was second with 79.
Prizes were also awarded to Lawrence Swallow, who won first place low net with a 72. Norm Hogge and Waldo Spendlove tied for second with 73. A sudden death playoff was required to determine second place. Hogge took par on the first hole and Spendlove’s penalty OB took his score to a double bogey, giving Hogge second place. Good job guys!
Other winners included: closest to the pin on #2 - Curtis Cutler, and Dennis Brunner on #6. Terry Blake had the big stick working, and took the longest drive on #4. Larry Gibson dialed it in, and took closest to center fairway on #7.
A prize was also awarded to Bruce “Sub” Bistline for having the most improved handicap of the season. Dropping 11 strokes, he finished with a 14 handicap. Way to go Sub!
A couple of our local merchants were brave enough to put up $500 for a hole-in-one. Thanks go to Farmers Insurance and NAPA Auto Parts. Luck was on their side because an ace was not made.
Coral Cliffs put up prizes for skins, and they were won by Buddy Cox, Dick Blake, Anson Johnson, Norm Hogge-2, and Waldo Spendlove-2. Nice shooting. Thanks to all of the 20 players that participated. It was a very nice turnout.
The match was followed up with burgers, hot dogs and all the trimmings, supplied by the Men’s Club, plus a tub of Joanie Cutler’s famous mac salad. Thanks Joanie! The clubhouse team of Rebecca, Mike and Summer did a great job of preparing the food and getting us all fed. The golf course is in great shape as well. Thanks a bunch!
Our thanks goes out to the following local merchants who made this tournament possible: Glaziers Market, Houston’s Trails End, Best Friends Animal Society, Farmers Insurance, NAPA Auto, Coral Cliffs, Golf Xtreme, Ramsay Towing and Service, Zion’s Bank, Southern Utah News and Hitch-n-Post RV Park.
The Men’s League will continue to gather on Thursday afternoons, but the start time will be bumped up to 4:00 p.m. Hope to see you there!
