“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to charity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.” – Melody Beattie

The quote from Beattie sums up what Kurt and Vivian Brinkerhoff mean to the Glendale community.

Kurt and Viv were chosen to represent the Glendale town as the honorary couple for 2009. Each year, the Apple Festival committee chooses someone in the community to honor as outstanding citizens of service. The Brinkerhoffs have indeed opened up their home to neighbors and strangers as well. Countless numbers have shared a Sunday meal, and the hospitality from Viv and Kurt’s home.

They are also known as great gardners; corn, beans and squash are some of the harvest that has found its way across town to the tables of others who have enjoyed the fruits of the Brinkerhoff’s labors.

The couple is always willing to serve in whatever capacity they are needed. They have served in church and community callings, and have been outstanding in their commitment to be of help wherever and whenever they can.

Kurt and Vivian have worked side by side for the Lions Club in preparing meals and cooking hamburgers on the grill for hungry folks attending rodeos and demo derbies. They have been inseparable in their service to others. Whenever you see Kurt, you will most probably see his wife by his side. It may be in the corn patch, traveling to the temple or preparing food for the company that is coming. The inseparable couple has indeed brought an abundance of love and service to the Glendale community.

The Brinkerhoffs are family- oriented and share their lives with children and grandchildren, who come from other states and communities to enjoy the company of their loved ones. It is with great honor and respect the festival honorees are none other than Kurt and Vivian Brinkerhoff. They are indeed the example of the quote from Beattie. Their personal gratitude has indeed, “Turned a meal into a feast, a house into a home, and a stranger into a friend.

Thanks Kurt and Viv, the community is blessed for having you as an integral part of every life in Glendale, Utah.
