Kanab Arts Board, Kanab City and Kane County Office of Tourism are pleased to announce the launch of Kanab Film Fest in connection with the Hollywood Shootout, set to run April 10-13. Kanab Film Fest will take place in scenic Kanab, Utah, known for its beauty and proximity to Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, Lake Powell and the Grand Canyon.

While the 2019 Kanab Film Fest will be the first film festival of its type, the Hollywood Shootout is not new and Kanab has a rich and storied history of filmmaking with over 160 professional films being made in the area dating back to the early 1930’s including: Gunsmoke (1955-75), Windrunner (1994) and The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976).

Kanab Film Fest plans to inject some new energy into the movie making scene in the area with this festival.

The festival began accepting submissions February 6 through filmfreeway.com/KanabFilmFest. The Early Bird submission special will be ending on Friday, February 15. Details on requirements, fees and general info are also available there and on KanabFilm.com.

Submissions are expected to come from all over the world with the judging categories being “Student,” “Utah Filmmakers” and “Open.” Films can be of almost any length and type, but will be presented to audiences ages 12 and up.

Filmmakers are encouraged to submit films even if they are not recently produced, as the requirement is that they be made in the last five years and submission to other festivals would not disqualify the entry. Prizes will be awarded in the the categories mentioned above as well as an “audience choice” award.
