On December 22, members of the Kane County Coalition and Kane County Youth Coalition met together at the Jackson Flat Reservoir, just east of the Water Conservancy District, to create a rock garden dedicated to mental health and suicide awareness. Rocks were painted during Mental Health Awareness Day by members of the community and placed at the rock garden along with a bench and a plaque describing the garden.

Millions of Americans are affected by mental health conditions every year. Nearly 40,000 people in the United States die from suicide annually, or one person every 13 minutes. By talking about mental health, we can promote awareness and lessen the stigma that often accompanies mental health issues.

We can all benefit from honest conversations about mental health conditions and suicide. Mental health and suicide are difficult subjects to talk about, but if we ever want to defeat these issues, we need to start by raising awareness.
