Today, flags fly across America. The breeze lifts the stars spangled banner gently from the pole and then spirals upwards as new hope rises with the flag.
The flag of freedom. A song pierces the air with a hope for voices heard in a democracy. A young man swears on a bible, as Abraham Lincoln did, some years past. There is a tone of humility and a new wisdom in his voice. He speaks of sacrifice and an urgency towards all Americans to serve --to act. It’s my day today, it’s your day, a new day of recommitment and dedication to our country.
Then the flag settles and flows to a stillness, a calm silence. For one brief moment a peace flows, for the hope of a better world, a better day. The youth of the young man portrays a strength and power of commitment. The spark in his eye reminds us of a fire lit for future generations. The song in his voice sings resounding notes elevating to a booming crescendo.
Reminders of who we are and what we stand for. Sing your song Americans, Your leader now holds the baton. Let our voices blend in harmony and unison lest we forget the vision of old glory and the words.
God bless America, Land that I love, stand beside her and guide her through the night with a light from above. May we each hold the candle and be as a beacon to those who look to us for leadership.
