New Health and Wellness Center proposed
In the work meeting at the Nov. 28 Kanab City Council meeting, Mayor Robert Houston talked about the proposed Kanab Health and Wellness Center anticipated to be located near the Kanab Library at a future date.
A discussion with architect Brent Tibbet has taken place, but all plans are preliminary for the $4-5 million project, possibly financed through Zion’s bank and repaid largely with a half percent share of Transient Room Tax money and other potential sources.
The public will be asked for input as to what they would like to see incorporated in planning for the indoor facility when that stage is addressed.
A film class at Kanab High School has asked permission to film the Kanab City Council meetings on a trial basis starting after January 1, and this was agreed to by the council.
The council will request more information from the Kanab BLM Field Office before deciding to resign a lease originating in 2003 for the 170 acres of land in the Squaw Trail Basin, which includes the higher reaches of the Kanab Mountain Bike Trail system.
Boundary questions and concerns involving the BLM’s recent request for input on the Area of Critical Environmental Concern along the Vermilion Cliffs prompted the delay in approving the lease agreement.
A general Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Kanab City and Kane County, Mohave County and the Town of Fredonia was agreed to by the council.
