Kanab High School students Tevin Decker, Cameron Yates and Hunter Cram are actively earning their firefighter certification. They attend classes and training every Thursday and Friday night, as well as all day Saturday.?The classes are offered locally through Utah Valley University and they are also receiving college credit.

On Saturday, December 10, they braved active fire training. They were required, numerous times, to enter a flashover training simulator that teaches firefighters how to recognize dangerous flashover situations. Temperatures inside the simulator can reach in excess of 400 degrees. This exercise teaches firefighters to trust their turnout gear and equipment.

These three young men also serve on the Kanab City Volunteer Fire Department.
