Kanab High School boasts new Fitness and Wellness Facility
A new fitness and wellness facility, built by Hughes Construction, was completed the first part of September. The impressive 3,500 square foot addition is equipped with eight half-rack stations showcasing wooden platforms topped off with the Kanab Cowboy logo, 12 TRX stations, and a 10’ X 90’ turf pad for warm-ups, agility, and ply-metric training.
The attached fitness center houses equipment to do circuits, such as: stationary bikes, resistance machinery, and treadmills.
On average, between 125 and 150 male and female students are using this equipment daily.
P.E. teacher and coach Bucky Orton said, “Our goal is to educate the students of KHS to become committed to lifelong fitness and to enjoy the benefits associated that come along with it. The completion of this facility was pertinent to the success of students overall fitness and wellness. It creates a one-stop shop for our students, putting everything they need to prepare for success into one facility. The overall look and functionality gives the students at Kanab something that they can take pride in.”
Kosha Reidhead, a student at Kanab says, “I look forward to my weights class. It gives me the energy and motivation that I need to get through the day.”
Instructional techniques that are being taught focus on all five elements of fitness, such as: muscular strength, muscular endurance, cardiovascular endurance, body composition and flexibility.
An open house to view the new fitness and wellness facility will be held in mid-November.
