Romance isn't as far away as you think
Editor’s note-Even when you live in Heaven like we do here in southern Utah, every once in awhile, you still need to get out of Dodge...wait, I meant Kanab! This will be a recurring feature about road trips that only take a tank of gas. There are so many beautiful places to visit here, as well as not so far away!
The Alaskan Inn Bed and Breakfast is nestled in picturesque Ogden Canyon. The property is beautiful, situated along the river, amid breath-taking scenery on both sides of the canyon. You are taken aback by the forests, clear, cool water cascading down the river, and snow-capped mountains, posing majestically in the distance.
Featuring 23 rooms, the property is 19 years old, and is owned by Mark and Kristal Schweppe.
There are four king and eight queen (mountain and river) rooms in the main lodge. The property also features quaint cabins outside, 10 queen cabins, and one king cabin.
The concept behind this boutique motel is they market only to adults. The rooms are tastefully decorated, and children aren’t allowed! But that slant is for a reason – couples can have a quiet, romantic getaway weekend!
“We are adults only,” said Alaskan Inn General Manager Kendall Love. “We believe relaxation and romance isn’t as far away as you think.”
To that end, all rooms and cabins are themed. Tastefully decorated to follow the ‘Alaskan’ concept, the rustic pine-walled cabins have names such as Glazier, Kenai, Kodiak, Orca or Timberwolf. The cabin theme is kept up with decor, fine artwork, and bedding.
The luxurious king cabin, the Windsong Lodge, is situated along the banks of the Ogden River. The enormous cabin features a fireplace located in front of the jetted tub.
Rooms in the main lodge, also with log wood interiors, are equally charming with themes such as Totem, Eagle’s Nest, Northern Lights, Goose and Gander, and the Bear’s Den.
Guests in the cabins and lodge are welcomed with a complimentary bottle of chilled cider and signature chocolates upon their arrival. There are also freshly baked cookies in the lobby when you check in.
All stays include a hot cooked breakfast delivered to your door that you select upon registration. A guest definitely feels pampered when hot Eggs Benedict and Strawberry Waffles are delivered to their door!
Manager Kendall Love said the Alaskan Inn staff also attempts to provide concierge service to make their guests’ stay more special – such as helping to recognize or decorate for special dates, like birthdays or anniversaries.
“We also got to hide an engagement ring for a gentleman who was bringing his girlfriend up here to propose,” related Love, of one occasion.
The Alaskan Inn is only 13 miles from Snow Basin Ski Resort, and numerous other winter recreational spots. But the fun doesn’t end when the snow melts!
The Cache National Forest is four miles up the canyon, with many amazing hiking trails, as well as Pine View Reservoir that offers great swimming, fishing, boating and other water sports.
“It’s definitely a great year round resort,” said Love. “It just offers something to guests that they cannot get anywhere else.”
The Alaskan Inn Bed and Breakfast is a Trip Advisor “Certificate of Excellence” award winner. It is located at 435 Ogden Canyon, Ogden. For questions or reservations, call 801-621-8600, or visit www.alaskaninn.com. Through June 2, they are having a “Spring Fling Special” with $50 off!
