The community of Kanab and the surrounding areas are cordially invited to the grand opening of the Best Friends Visitor Center, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 20, at 235 South 100 East, across from Glazier’s Family Market.

This festive, family-friendly event will feature a craft table for kids, where they can make toys for pets, and have a chance to meet some of the animals from Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. There will be free tours of the sanctuary, raffles and food.

The first 50 children who have completed the special coloring page found in the Southern Utah News will receive a free shaved ice. The first 100 people who bring in the postcard that was mailed to all Kanab residents will receive a free ice cream.

Gregory Castle, CEO of Best Friends Animal Society, said, “As we work together to promote the unique attractions Kanab has to offer visitors, our new center will be an important place to continue growing our relationship with the local businesses and the city. We want to extend a special thank you to Matt Brown, the owner of the former Radio Shack building, for making this space available to Best Friends, and for making many of the improvements needed.”

“The new center also provides us an extra opportunity to connect with people driving through town and make them aware that one of the special things Kanab has to offer is the nation’s largest no-kill animal sanctuary.”

“This new center completely captures the very essence of our mission and will give visitors the opportunity to become acquainted with Best Friends, while offering opportunities to meet some of our animals for adoption, become a member, and take a tour of the Sanctuary.”
