Our local community orchestra, Symphony of the Canyons, will be performing their annual spring concert Saturday, June 6, at 7:30 p.m., in the parking lot of State Bank of Southern Utah, who is sponsoring the event.

This is the first time in our 31-year history that the Symphony will have performed during the month of June. We have undertaken to perform music that is very challenging for us, and in the past, have not been able to play at this level. We hope all music lovers will come and enjoy a nice Kanab evening listening to popular classical pieces.

The event is free of charge and seating will be provided.

The program’s highlight will be a performance by one of our recent Kanab High School graduates, Derrick Jensen. He will perform the 1st movement of Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A minor. This alone will be worth attending the event. Jensen is the son of Jeff and Julie Jensen of Kanab and has studied with Thierry Willner. He has earned a very prestigious scholarship in music to Utah State University following his LDS mission. He was also the KHS Sterling Scholar in Music.

Other pieces to be performed are Dvorak’s 9th Symphony, Baccannalle from Samson and Deliliah by Saint-Saens and the 5th Hungarian Dance by Brahms.

We hope to see you there.
