Mrs. Jeanne Crookston was recently recognized by the Coconino Coalition for Children and Youth by receiving the Caring for Children Award.

Crookston has been a Kindergarten teacher at Fredonia Elementary School for over 10 years. She has also served many years as the school’s Reading Specialist and has taught Fredonia Elementary’s Kindercamp program for the last two years.

Crookston works hard for children in many ways. She teaches a high school level Early Childhood Education class where students can receive both high school and college credit. Some of her high school students have earned the opportunity to compete in the Future Educators Association’s National Conference in Washington, D.C. this month.

Crookston also teaches two different classes for parents in the evenings: The Growing Up Great Parent Education Class and Darkness to Light-Steward’s of Children Class. She has taught Early Childhood courses at the community college level as well.

The Caring for Children Award was given to only four individuals this year. Crookston was the only recipient outside of the Flagstaff area. She received her award at a ceremony held at the Little America Hotel in Flagstaff.

Congratulations Jeanne, and thank you for all you do for children and families!
