The Southern Utah News won eight excellence awards at the Utah Press Association’s annual convention held March 5-7 in St. George. Competing in the largest field of state newspapers with like circulation, the SUN took home three first place, three second place and two third place wins.

First place plaques were given to the SUN for Best Feature Series, “Kane County Tagging,” written by Dixie Brunner; Best Sports Photo, Barry Glazier’s “Surfin’ the Sand Dunes”; and Best Use of Ad Color, the 2014 Kanab 10K.

Second place awards were given for Best Feature Story, the “Hulet to take Utah Honor Flight” story, written by Dixie Brunner; Best Editorial, “Irony on Gay Marriage issue,” written by Dixie Brunner; and Best Special Section, the Southern Utah Vacation Guide.

Third place nods went for Best Ad Campaign, the Pigskin Predictions Football Contest, by Dennis Brunner; and Best Feature Column, “In a Woman’s Mind,” written by Dixie Brunner.
