Southern Utah University recently hosted the 66th session of Utah Girls’ State sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary. There were 327 girls from around the state who participated in an intense week filled with a variety of activities teaching them to work together as a self-governing body. They learned about the American political process by participating in city, county and state elections.  The program’s sole purpose is to teach responsible citizenship and instill a deep appreciation for our great nation.

At the graduation ceremonies, 10 of the girls were selected to receive a $5,000 scholarship award based on their commitment to academics, service and community. Valley High School student Jodi Hoyt  was one of the scholarship recipients.
