Dear Editor:

We are excited to see all you runners and walkers at the starting line this coming Saturday. The 10K committee has worked very hard these past few months to provide a quality race for the participants. Our course is certificated and sanctioned, Josh Baird designed a “killer” T-shirt, Kathy Miles has worked with Glazier’s Market to procure a finish line feast, and Latimer Smith did much of the legwork to secure financial contributions and great prizes from our many generous sponsors who keep this event running. To make the race run more smoothly and efficiently for you, we ask the following of our participants:

•Please register (if you haven’t yet) and pick up your race packet tonight Friday, May 10, from 5-8 p.m. Bring extra money ($5 minimum) for your RACE FOR JAYC wristband! Family members and friends are welcome to pick up your packet for you if you can’t make it. Race packet pick up will be at Adobe Fitness. Picking up your packet early really helps! There are so many details to take care of on race day, and it is so much easier when this detail is out of the way.

•Show up at the city park at 6 a.m. to take a bus to the starting line. We have a limited number of buses to shuttle over 200 runners. It is critical that the buses begin shuttling people promptly at 6 a.m. Be brave! We know the starting line is cold, but you can bundle up as much as you need. We will have a vehicle to take your extra clothes to the finish line, and we have several clothing drops on the course. Plus, getting to the starting line early will give you extra time to stretch and warm up! Also, please do not warm up on the highway! Stay in the Moqui Cave parking area until we call you to the starting line.

•We try very hard to start the race on time. However, we have had problems starting promptly in the past because of last minute stragglers. Do not be one of these people! We are fortunate UDOT allows us to close down half the highway for this event so our runners can experience such a scenic course. We must comply with UDOT and get all runners off the highway by 9 a.m. In order to meet this deadline, we must start the race at 7 a.m. By helping us, you ensure our signature scenic course remains for future 10K races.

Anyone is welcome to stop by the Adobe Fitness Center today, May 10, from 5-8 p.m. to buy a RACE FOR JAYC wristband ($5 minimum donation). All wristband proceeds will go directly to the Glover family.

For those of you who are not running the 10K, please consider coming to the finish line at the Kanab City Park to cheer on the participants. Runners will be coming in to the finish area from 7:30 to 9 a.m. This is a fun-filled community event. We want to share it with all of you!
