Grand to Grand 2 preparations underway
Preparations are well underway for the second edition of the Grand to Grand Ultra, North America’s first and only self-supported stage footrace, which will take place from September 22-28, 2013.
We recently caught up with Colin Geddes, Event Director.
“We are pleased that Kanab will once again be race headquarters for the second edition of the G2G. With such great feedback from our competitors last year about the course and the reception from the people of Kane County, it was clear to us that we should build the Grand to Grand Ultra from the base we established in 2012. We are working with the BLM Kanab Field Office to make some improvements to the course and hope to have an even better race for our international field in 2013.”
Entries have already exceeded those for the event in 2012 and at this date of going to press, 19 nationalities are represented.
Several of the 2012 competitors are returning this September. Jo Petersen, a doctor from New Zealand who finished fourth overall at G2G 2012, will be coming back and competing this time with his two sons, Craig and Mark. Other 2012 competitors who are returning are Lynne Hewett (Australia), Heather Mastrianni (Canada), Charlotte Valentine (USA) and Stef Hostetter (USA). Two more 2012 competitors, Mandy Miller and Payge McMahon, are returning as volunteers in 2013.
Once again, the G2G will be working closely with the Kane County Volunteer Center. If anyone would like to volunteer this year, you are asked to submit your application to email@example.com">firstname.lastname@example.org or contact Terra Sue Honey at the center. Organizers advise most of the volunteer positions have already been filled, so it is recommended you make inquiries as soon as possible.
The G2G is also pleased to announce it will offer two complimentary event entries to two lucky residents of Kane County. For anyone who feels they have what it takes to complete the grueling course, please send your resume to email@example.com. The organizers have asked you include your past history in endurance activities and sports, and any other information to support your application.
